If your Smart Controller isn't reading your SD card, you've put in a new card, or you just want to clear it and start fresh, formatting it through the SC takes less than a minute. Here's how to do it.
Understanding SD Cards and Your Setup
The Aeroo Smart Controller and the Aeroo Pro drone each have their own SD card slot, serving different purposes.
The SD card in your drone stores your flight footage and logs. Every photo and video you capture in the air is saved directly to the drone's card.
The SD card in your Smart Controller serves as extra storage for the controller itself, including downloaded files, logs, and additional controller data.
Both cards should be Class V30 or higher for the best performance. If you're putting in a brand-new card, always format it before use.
How to Format the SD Card on the Smart Controller
Step 1 — Power on the Smart Controller. Press and hold the power button until the screen turns on and you hear a beep.
Step 2 — Access the SD Card Swipe down from the top middle of the screen to open quick settings. Then swipe half up to see the SD card option appear. Tap Explore to open the SD card.
Step 3 — Open Storage Settings. Tap the three dots in the top right corner of the screen. From the dropdown menu, tap Storage Settings.
Step 4 — Format the Card Tap Format, then tap Format SD Card to confirm. The Smart Controller will format the card and confirm when it's done.
That's it, your SD card is now formatted and ready to use.
Formatting from a Computer Instead
If you prefer to format your SD card on a computer rather than via the Smart Controller, make sure you select exFAT as the file system. Using any other format may cause the SC to not read the card correctly.
On a Mac, use Disk Utility and select exFAT from the format dropdown. On a Windows PC, right-click the SD card in File Explorer, select Format, and choose exFAT from the file system options.
Once formatted on your computer, insert the card into the Smart Controller, and it should be recognised straight away.
Things to Know Before You Format
Formatting permanently deletes everything on the card. Make sure you've transferred anything you want to keep before you start.
Always use a Class V30 SD card or higher. Using a slower card can affect performance and recording quality.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to format a brand-new SD card? Yes. Always format a new card through the Smart Controller before using it for the first time. This ensures it's set up correctly for your device.
Will formatting the SD card in the Smart Controller delete footage from my drone? No. The SD card in the Smart Controller and the SD card in the Drone are separate. Formatting one does not affect the other. However, if you put the drone's SD card with footage into your controller, it will be wiped.
My Smart Controller still isn't reading the SD card after formatting — what do I do? Try removing the card and reinserting it. If it's still not recognised, try a different card to rule out a faulty card. If the issue continues, contact our support team — Aeroo Support Centre
What size SD card do I need? Class V30 or higher is recommended. The SC supports microSD cards. Check out Which Micro SD Card Should I Use with the Aeroo Pro?
